Senior Business Analyst

 


The opportunity:

The Senior Business Analyst will help support the development process, and to confirm that project deliverables are met according to specifications. The Senior Business Analyst will lead and mentor other Business Analysts. To elicit, document, analyze, and recommend solutions based on the business needs of project stakeholders.  This includes interviewing stakeholders, gathering and compiling requirements to convey to the development teams throughout the software lifecycle.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Building the foundation for the development effort by capturing the business context - problem, current state, desired future state, objectives, business needs and impacted user groups.
  • Documents requirements (business, user and software) and confirms connection to the business vision.
  • Monitors the requirements through the program/project lifecycle by conferring and maintaining record of agreements between the customer and the project team, which includes but not limited to Senior Business Analyst, Product Owner, Product Manager, and technical team.
  • Manage requirements communications and maintaining agreements between business and project stakeholders.
  • Documents and reviews business, user and non-functional/system level requirements in the form of user stories and use cases
  • Develop and assist in grooming and prioritizing user stories in the product backlog
  • Documents and confirms change management procedures are followed within the program/project team as they relate to project requirements.
  • Proficient facilitator using techniques to help define scope and requirements during the lifecycle
  • Responsible for ensuring change control and change management procedures are followed within the project team as they relate to requirements
 
Your key responsibilities:

  • Understands and can utilize the appropriate methods to elicit and document requirements
  • Documents the procedures for how the requirements will be managed (i.e. base lining requirements, requirements change control and requirements traceability)
  • Selecting the appropriate analysis and specification; ensuring that requirements are of high quality
  • Understands and documents change requests related to requirements to assess overall impact
  • Coaches, mentors, and supports junior team members
  • Leads Business Analyst teams consisting of cross functional, global, and virtual groups; typically directs or supervises small teams; assigns responsibility to team members; monitors progress of less experienced Business Analysts
  • Participates in resource planning and recruitment activities
  • Expected to act independently to deliver and manage requirements to schedule, budget and scope; support provided as required and requested, and is self-driven and motivated
 
Skills and attributes for success:
 
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years in business analysis or related technical field and 8 to 10 years in IT overall
  • Business analysis role with personal accountability for delivering and managing requirements to time and cost for projects typically more than $1 million in value and 6 to 12 months or more in duration
  • Comfortable dealing with difficult stakeholders and opinionated developers and architects during facilitated sessions and during the development lifecycle
  • Experience in selecting and executing elicitation techniques such as Interviews, Exploratory Prototypes, Facilitated Workshops, Focus Groups, Observation, User Task Analysis, Documentation Study and Surveys and overall Process Re-engineering
  • Well versed in emerging technologies and able to influence solution decisions
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience
