Job summary

We are currently seeking a highly motivated senior with a focus on risk governance and enterprise risk management (ERM) to join the Enterprise Risk and Controls (ERC) team within the Financial Services Risk Management (FSRM) practice to work with a wide variety of clients to deliver professional services, and to lead business development activities on strategic and global priority accounts. The FSRM is part of EY’s Financial Services Organization (FSO), which is a unique, industry-focused business unit that provides a broad range of integrated services by leveraging deep industry experience with strong functional capability and product knowledge. Within FSRM, the ERC team assists clients with the development of risk strategies and frameworks that span multiple risk disciplines with a specific focus on issues of risk governance, enterprise risk management, operational risk management and controls within the context of the broader regulatory landscape. 

ERC professionals develop and deliver broad risk offerings and drive cross-service initiatives as organizations adapt to changing regulations and business models. Our team is made up of professionals with risk management backgrounds, deep regulatory experience, broad business consulting and project management experience, focused on delivering practical client solutions in a rapidly changing business and regulatory environment. Specifically, this team assists domestic and global institutions in the asset management, insurance and banking industries with issues of broad risk governance, including board and management oversight, risk culture, risk appetite and limit setting, and risk accountability models across the three lines of defense.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate on client engagements while consistently delivering quality client services – assist with driving high-quality work products within expected time frames and within budget
  • Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment – provide constructive on-the-job feedback and coaching to junior team members
  • Develop technical capabilities into risk and regulatory matters – support the team in the delivery of practical client solutions that meet the needs of their business model and regulatory landscape

To qualify, candidates must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or other business-related discipline and typically more than two years of total work experience, with a focus on related risk and regulatory initiatives; or a master’s degree and approximately one year of related work experience
  • Direct experience with banking and capital markets, asset management or insurance industries
  • Demonstrated ability to operate on large client service engagements and deliver on high-quality client work products in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated direct experience with one or more of the following topics:
    • ERM framework, including enterprise risk assessments, policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities
    • Risk appetite framework, including design and implementation of limits and exceptions-based reporting
    • Implementing a three-lines-of-defense model to deliver risk accountability – including roles of the front line, risk organization and alignment with the role of internal audit
    • Risk taxonomy, risk-and-control-assessment approaches and risk metrics; design or execution of risk-and-control “convergence” or governance models
    • Knowledge of risk and control frameworks and broad understanding of interaction of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) initiatives
    • Strong knowledge of board and senior management governance, and experience with board and risk committee functions (charters, operations, minutes, reporting)
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop project approach, work plans, resource estimates and cost estimates
  • Knowledge of a range of financial products (derivatives, equities, fixed income, etc.)
  • Strong analytical experience and process orientation (process documentation, mapping and redesign; business requirements documentation, root-cause analysis, organizational redesign)
  • Prior consulting experience is preferred (current state/future-state assessments, business process redesign, target operating models) and/or business operations/project management roles in financial services
  • One or more of the following certifications is considered a plus: CFA, CPA, FRM or APRM
  • Strong communication, presentation, client servicing and technical writing skills
  • A willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally, to meet client needs
