Key responsibilities

As Director Innovation strategy, you are expected to:
  • Lead client projects independently and engage teams to deliver high quality outputs;
  • Take the lead in identifying client issues and proposing the most appropriate approach for challenges that governments face;
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with senior clients based on doing the right things;
  • Develop the business and acquire new clients and engagements, including the identification and pursuit of business opportunities through existing networks and by developing new relationships;
  • Identify opportunities for other EY service lines;
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge in innovation strategy and/or interested in further developing existing or new offerings;
  • Contribute to the development of the existing EY VODW team, acting as mentor and coach to all levels of the team and leading by example.


Your profile

Degree and specialism 
  • Master degree in economics, business, entrepreneurship, marketing, psychology, communication, or equivalent …

Experience in relevant field 
  • You have at least 8 years of relevant experience in consultancy or project work in innovation and innovation strategy;
  • You have a strong personal network and a proven track-record in business development. This has allowed you to build your book of business in the past;
  • You are competent in Core Consulting Capabilities, can quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise;
  • You are able to analyze complex problems within client assignments and are able to deliver insightful and practical solutions in a structured manner;
  • You are used to dealing with executive stakeholders in large national and international companies.

Technical knowledge and certificates 
  • You understand the nuances of helping clients define a well-balanced innovation portfolio and have experience in helping companies come up with:
    • New business model;
    • New service concepts;
    • New products.
  • You have experience in advising companies on the three frontiers of innovation (core, adjacent, transformative);
  • You have experience in setting up and managing large scale innovation programs and the necessary governance around it;
  • You know how to translate a corporate strategy towards an innovation strategy and roadmap;
  • You are familiar with working in agile teams collaborating with digital strategists, UX designers, data scientists and digital marketeers;
  • Ideally you have a good understanding on emerging technologies that have a strong influence on innovation topics from a customer-facing perspective (AI, Voice, RPA,…);
  • Experience and a network in industries such as FMCG, Life Sciences, Public sector is a plus (but not mandatory).

Language skills
  • You are fluent in Dutch and/or French and proficient level of business English.

Soft skills
  • Strong team spirit, balanced by a healthy sense of autonomy;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • A global mindset, eagerness to learn, and the ability to function in international teams;
  • People management and project management experience.
